hey jazzmaestra, would you rather everyone completely forgot who shirley bassey was? you know how much i love imogen heap now because of what jason derulo did with her track. if you can’t see the benefits just make your own jazz music that nobody will listen to ever and shut up because you are not offering anything of value to the conversation.

If you can even play anything. I play the drums, piano and turntables AND I SPIT HOT FIRE what you got going on?

I understand your frustration…keep in mind this – rap grew out of the ghetto’s of new york where classical music training was pretty much non-exsistant so people made music however they could. Also, I persoanlly was thrown into old music including jazz, soul, blues, even prison work songs all starting from hip hop. I heard jazz samples and went futher to find the original artist. In my opinion hip hop producers saved jazz in a way by letting many get a small taste of it even if sampled.

This is why I do not like Rap. The vocals are by Dame Shirley Bassey. The fact that Kanye and the rest of these second rate poets would sample her vocals suggests that they are no where near the musicianship of Dame Shirley and others of her ilk. Back in the 1960s-1980s and earlier, musicians did not sample; they created their own music. Go figure?!?!?!?!

  6. Afrikiism says:

If they could get Lupe on this track (even though he’s not Roc), it would be one hell of a song.

  7. xXMFAXx says:

im not sure if you’re being sarcastic or not but they sample kanye used is from a james bond film Diamonds are Foerver

@sdgsdgsdgsd3 that’s because the song it’s based on “Diamonds Are Forever” by Shirley Bassey was the james bond theme song

  10. lalk3434 says:

hes refering to the ROC throughout this song. its more about the ROCAFella records than conflict diamonds.

  11. sdgsdgsdgsd3 says:

the music sounds likea james bond film

  12. ogBLOODog says:

If you listen to the song, he clearly admits to that:
“It’s in black person’s soul to rock that gold,
spend your whole life tryna’ get that ice”

    lupes version is better

  21. yezziryessir13 says:

Jay-z’s verse had no meaning he shouldnt have even been on but kanye west verse was deep.. and i can tell he was freestyling so was jay-z well jay-z is always freestylen

  22. DjMontana42X says:

I agree, i never liked jay z he has no lyrics/flow and some people say that hes the best rapper ever. I doubt that. Big L/Rugged Man or even Havoc would rip him to shreds.

  23. swander57 says:

jay z ruined the song, i know. im tired of the BS with rappers only talking about themselves and jay z had a real opportunity to rap about something that mattered but he blew the chance. i completely agree with you

  24. swander57 says:

    it gets the word out
